High Atlas Berber Carpet
Here you see a beautiful, all wool, Berber carpet from the High Atlas Mountains in Morocco in North Africa. The undyed gray wool background is offset by bold and bright motifs. While symmetrical is some respects, the motifs also present with assymetry in their location and shape. This combination of effects creates strong local interest as well as overall appeal.
The lush wool, rich in lanolin, has a certain gentle sheen that is visible upon closer examination and in soft lighting. The natural variations in the undyed wool provide visual richness.
Thick pile tied with heavy yarns using the Berber knot create visual and tactile warmth. Walking on this rug is a pleasure.
